David Argo leaves the Niangua boys program to take over the Chadwick girls program this year.
Argo was successful at Niangua, leading them to the state quarterfinals where they lost to Scott County Central. The Chadwick girls finished third in the state last year and Argo hopes to continue Chadwick’s rich tradition in girls basketball.
“I have high hopes for this team,” said Argo. “Everyone is counting us out after losing key pieces of last year’s team, but this team works hard and comes to play every day in practice. I feel we will contend with any team we play on the floor.”
The Lady Cardinals lost four players from last year’s team including all-time 3-point record holder Maddie Hursh, but all is not lost for the Lady Cardinals. Three starters return for Chadwick this year, including seniors Kailyn Rozel (5’10, all-state, all-conference, all-district) and Hailey Stevens (5’7, all-conference, all-district) along with sophomore Shayna Adams (5’5, second team all-conference.
Hailey Farris (5’10) and Shelby Weter (5’7’) are two sophomores who won letters last year and will look to increase their playing time this season.
Chadwick has a tradition of playing strong defensively and offensively. This year’s team looks to continue that tradition. “We want to get up and guard the entire game,” said Argo. “We don’t have a lot of depth so we’re going to have to be in shape and play with a high basketball IQ. We will have to use discipline and rely on everyone to make a contribution.”
