Teachers and students alike look forward every year to Christmas break, but this year Chadwick School got a little more than they bargained for.
School was dismissed for an extra week--January 4 through 8--due to subzero temperatures and several inches of snow. Except for a few visits from the maintenance and secretarial staffs to keep things running smoothly, the school building remained empty for an entire extra week.
So just how did students and staff use their extended vacation?
The typical Chadwick elementary student used the time for play: both outside in the snow and inside with video games, stuffed animals, and other toys.
Some high school students were productive--cutting wood, working on their trucks, or reading books--but most admitted to using the majority of time for recreation.
"I finished a book on the history of the NBA, and I took my brothers sledding," said senior Blake Johnson.
Many teachers enjoyed the time off as well.
“I got to spend extra time with my husband, which was good because we did not get to spend Christmas together,” said math teacher Mrs. Linn.
Administrators are waiting to reschedule the missed days due to the possibility of more bad weather.
