In the second-to-last game of the regular season, our own Maddie Hursh knocked down five 3-pointers Monday, February 11 against Niangua to set a new single-season record for 3-pointers with a total of 123.
Coach Meinders said, “I’m so proud of Maddie, and really credit goes to the whole team. They’re such a good group of kids.”
On the eve of this accomplishment, Maddie was honored as Ozark Sports Zone’s athlete of the week last week:
Chadwick junior Maddie Hursh has been scorching the nets this year. So far this season she has knocked down 118 3-point shots and needs just three more to break the record.
While she has had much success this year, this season has been years in the making.
“She and her dad have spent hours and hours in the gym. It is nothing I do,” Chadwick head coach Darin Meinders said. “That is just a kid that has a great work ethic and spends a lot of time in the gym. Maddie made me a lot better coach than I made her a shooter.” Continue Reading

While most students spent their Christmas break sleeping in, traveling, and relaxing, the boys and girls basketball teams spent their vacation in Walnut Grove playing in their holiday tournament.
The Chadwick Lady Cardinals defeated the Lady Trojans, 68-33, asserting their dominance with a 23-point first quarter that established what would be an unbreakable lead.
…Chadwick started strong from behind the three-point line with Kailyn Rozell, who finished with 17 points, scoring three 3’s in the first quarter.
Hursh followed up draining an astounding eight 3-pointers throughout the game, which accounted for 24 of her game-high 26 points, including three consecutive shots from downtown in the third quarter.
…“Well, when I’m wide open, that’s when I’ll take a three,” Hursh said about her shooting strategy. “And some of the girls on the team know to set a screen and get me open. When your short (5 foot 2 inches) you’ve gotta know how to find space.”
…The Cardinals benched Hursh early in the fourth quarter, but sophomore Hailey Stevens stepped up, making offensive plays and skirting around the Trojan offense to deliver a series of layups accounting for six of her 11 points.

[T]he Cardinals may be remembered for their showing at Walnut Grove for years to come as junior Maddie Hursh set a new tournament record for the most 3-pointers during the event.
Hursh scored eight 3-pointers in a single game, besting the seven-shot record. But even more impressive, Hursh sank 27 treys during the four games, crushing the previous 16 3-point tournament record. Hursh scored 110 points during the tourney.

The Lady Cardinals defeated NCA 69-38 on November 29, 2012.
Chadwick jumped out to a 16-0 lead to start the game and opened the second quarter on a 14-0 run thanks to forcing the Lady Warriors into more than 20 first-half turnovers, which resulted in a 42-15 halftime advantage.
Coach Meinders said, “Our kids put a lot of effort out and when you do that it frustrates other teams. I don’t think they had more than two good looks the whole first half and that’s just a testament to how hard the kids were playing.”
The Lady Cardinals up-tempo, frantic style led to plenty of easy buckets and Hursh led the way with 23 points, while Ruhland scored 16.
